What you get
- Deposit-free LPG connection in the woman's name (security deposit paid by the government)
- Free first refill and free hotplate (stove) from the oil marketing company
- ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder subsidy, credited straight to the linked bank account, for up to 12 refills a year (as currently notified — subsidy levels are reviewed by the government)
- Option of 5 kg cylinders for families who prefer smaller refills
Over 10 crore connections have been released under PMUY. The scheme targets households still cooking on firewood, coal, or dung — a major cause of indoor air pollution and respiratory illness among women and children.
Eligibility criteria
- Applicant must be a woman aged 18 or above
- No LPG connection in the household from any oil marketing company (Indane, Bharatgas, HP Gas)
- From a poor household, established by belonging to any of these groups:
- SC/ST households
- PMAY-Gramin beneficiaries
- Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) card holders
- Most Backward Classes (MBC)
- Tea-garden and ex-tea-garden tribes
- Forest dwellers, islanders, and river-island residents
- SECC 2011-listed poor households
- Any other poor household via a 14-point self-declaration of deprivation
- Migrant families without a local ration card can apply with a self-declaration — a key Ujjwala 2.0 relaxation
How to apply
- Online: go to pmuy.gov.in → Apply for New Ujjwala Connection → choose Indane, Bharatgas, or HP Gas → fill the form and pick your nearest distributor.
- Offline: visit the nearest LPG distributor of any company with your documents and ask for the PMUY form.
- The distributor verifies your details and household LPG status (de-duplication against existing connections is automatic).
- On approval, you receive the connection, stove, and first refill free. Make sure your bank account is Aadhaar-seeded so the per-cylinder subsidy lands by DBT.
Documents needed
- Aadhaar card of the applicant (identity and address; mandatory for KYC)
- Ration card or family composition proof (self-declaration for migrants)
- Category proof (caste certificate / AAY card / PMAY-G sanction) where applicable
- Bank account passbook (Aadhaar-seeded, for the subsidy)
- Passport-size photo
