Who is eligible

• Resident of Tamil Nadu, studying post-matric (Class 11, 12, ITI, diploma, UG, PG, MPhil/PhD) in a recognised institution
• SC/ST students: annual family income up to ₹2.5 lakh — covers tuition, special and exam fees, plus maintenance allowance
• BC students: income generally up to ₹1 lakh for the state scheme (some sub-schemes add conditions, e.g. no graduate in the family)
• MBC/DNC students: certain fee concessions apply with relaxed or no income limits
• BC/MBC/DNC students may alternatively qualify under the central PM-YASASVI post-matric scheme (income up to ₹2.5 lakh) via NSP
• Students must not simultaneously hold another scholarship covering the same expenses

Rates and sub-scheme rules differ between the Adi Dravidar Welfare (SC/ST) and BC/MBC Welfare departments — your institution's scholarship section can tell you which sub-scheme applies to your course.

How to apply, step by step

1. Ask your institution's scholarship cell first. In Tamil Nadu most post-matric applications are initiated, verified, and forwarded by the college — they know the current portal, sub-scheme, and deadline for your course.
2. SC/ST students: register on the TN State Scholarship Portal (run by TNeGA for the Adi Dravidar Welfare department) with Aadhaar, fill the post-matric application, and upload documents.
3. BC/MBC/DNC students: apply through the BC/MBC Welfare department channel via your institution — or check PM-YASASVI on NSP, which requires One-Time Registration.
4. Track and follow up: after you submit, your institution must verify before the deadline — unverified applications fail. The amount comes by DBT to your Aadhaar-seeded bank account.

Documents needed

• Aadhaar (mobile-linked) and Aadhaar-seeded bank passbook
• Community certificate (SC/ST/BC/MBC/DNC) — apply via e-Sevai if you don't have one
• Income certificate from the taluk office (current year)
• Previous marksheets and current-year admission/fee receipt or bonafide certificate
• First-page copy of bank passbook; hostel certificate if claiming hosteller rates

Deadlines

Application windows are announced each academic year — typically August to November, with institutional verification deadlines following. The current year's dates are published on the TN scholarship portal and circulated through institutions. Don't wait for the last week: income and community certificates take time to issue.
